I came across a disturbing video last week of a young woman, scolding a goose who was sitting on eggs. This is the time of year, if you know geese and have raised them for a long time, they sit on eggs, because they want to be mothers, especially younger geese. Some are more broody than others, and their instinct really kicks in, in the spring, but usually after a month or so, they go back to their normal routine. The most responsible and ethical way to fix this, is to take the eggs away to break the broodiness, or replace the eggs with fake eggs. Sometimes it’s not easy to break them from broodiness but being abusive to them is not the way to handle them. Why even get an animal if you don’t understand them or just don’t want to do research on them before getting them ? A person who abuses animals often also abuses people around them. This is not healthy or normal anger.
I’ve seen this video, of this very aggressive, young woman, screaming at her goose like a maniac, in front of her children, because the goose just naturally does what a goose does in the spring, sits on eggs to incubate them. I don’t even understand why Tiktok, which is watched mainly by young people and kids, would allow such nasty and foul language on their platform ? This is just a really bad example of parenting and teaching kids how to be around animals, especially cussing in such a way.
Now I’m not sure why those eggs weren’t picked up to begin with, but this goose has been deemed “Aggressive” by the owner, and I really did not see that at all in the video. Or maybe it was labelled aggressive because it hissed ? Hissing doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s just a vocal way for a goose to tell us to back off. The way this woman handled that goose, just disgusted me to my core. She grabbed the goose by the neck, right under her chin, literally threw her in a nasty, rusted, small cage with no water and no food, just because the goose was sitting on the eggs… I just fail to understand the logic behind all this. Farmers do not treat their animals in such a way and those who do, really shouldn’t have them at all.
I have to warn you that the video is upsetting and foul language is used.
She is screaming at the goose and of course the goose doesn’t understand English, but those kids watching her do. Why she is not allowed to sit on eggs, a completely natural thing for her to do, is not acceptable for a broody goose in the spring. Instead, the owner acts like an unstable maniac, screams at the top of her lungs, in a very aggressive manner and throws the bird in the very small cage. Apparently this woman doesn’t have a single clue about a bird being broody, how to properly break them from such, and think that handling a bird this way because it’s a goose, is the right way… I’m completely baffled by this behavior. When visiting her Facebook page, the owner of said goose, I was even more baffled by the amount of people supporting her behavior, telling her that she did the right thing, that animals advocate and people finding such action disgusting things are crazy.. wow !?
What disgusts me the most isn’t just that, are all the people liking the video, supporting that behavior and that aggressiveness like it’s a normal way to act and the normal thing to do ? What is wrong with people ? Are we that blind and become so desensitized that we just allow this kind of abuse go on now on social media for likes, money and fame ? What’s more is why are people supporting that ? Is it supposed to be funny, cool ? Why ? Because it’s a goose ?

The Karens in the comments, meaning people who don’t agree with and support the abuse the goose was subjected too.

She thinks what she did is really funny.

Yes she do it day in day out like most farmers a LOT of us out there do, and you don’t see us abusing our animals.
The goose was abused because she is broody and was just sitting on chicken eggs. Instead of collecting the eggs, like most of us do, she just let over 50 eggs lay there, knowing that it’s not the first time the goose sat on them. The goose is a bad and aggressive goose for doing what broody geese do, sitting on eggs in the spring. Female geese are not aggressive at all, usually. They will mostly hiss if anything bothers them. In general it’s the male goose, the gander that can be aggressive a little bit more than usual, especially during the spring when their hormones kick in. They have the protective instinct to protect their family, just like us humans ! But if a goose does it, then it’s a bad goose. How hypocritical of us to think such a thing. If you don’t understand geese, I highly suggest just not getting them instead of abusing them. I have had my fair share of being bitten, scratched, slapped by my ganders and yet I have never, ever abused any of my males that way. There are SO many ways to handle an aggressive gander honestly and they don’t involve picking the bird up by the neck and strangling them.
For example we either pick up the goose, gently holding their neck/head away from us, until they calm down. Getting down to their level and talking to them with a calm voice can work also. What usually works for us is just using a branch, a small rake for picking up the dog poop and putting it between the goose and us. Generally putting something between us and the goose almost always works ! There really is no need at all to handle the bird in an aggressive manner. But these people in the comments who are not even familiar with geese think they know better than most of us who have geese and support the goose owner in her behavior of the goose and using such foul language in front of her children. As a parent, do you really find that acceptable ? Is that how you react ?

A lot of people think this is the way to handle birds they may find “Difficult”

Calling people dumb who don’t support the abuse of a goose. It makes us really bad people and apparently not very intelligent either because we find her way to handle the goose unethical ?

Supporting and worshipping the woman who doesn’t know what she is doing, obviously. Well, most of us who are disgusted by that behavior, actually DO own geese, hence why a lot of us are very disturbed by the way she handled that goose, because we would never do that. Apparently it makes us bad people for even thinking that her way of dealing with the bird is not acceptable. We are Karens for even thinking it is wrong. We are too soft to own these birds. We don’t know what we are talking about, have no knowledge and they know better than us.

Just the way she talks to her followers in general, yet they all still support her. She uses abusive language in front of her children, mistreats her animals and uses foul language in front of her kids, but that seems an okay, adult way to act apparently. No one seems bothered by the total lack of maturity, the aggressiveness of the woman handling the bird. Who knows what goes on behind those videos ? Is this really the kind of people that we support now ? That we want as an example for our kids to watch ?

Here we have a follower that knows exactly how to solve the situation by giving a correct advice, yet is called slow and insulted for doing so. Is this really what followers love seeing ? You like being treated this way by the person you are admiring ? Getting no respect at all for your opinion and the human that you are ?

Here we have someone comparing an Emu to a goose…. *Facepalm* with 176 people liking the comment. Unreal.
What do you think of the video and this situation ? Would you deal with it in a different way ? Do you agree in the way that the goose was treated ? Please let me know in the comments.
